K-6th Grade

LCA’s model for elementary students is a five-day academic program with students spending three days (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) on campus from 8:00-2:25 and two days (Tuesday and Thursday) in their “satellite classroom” at home. Elective classes are offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:30-3:25.

Curriculum

Lucas Christian Academy is a community where our students feel loved and respected. Our faculty are quality teachers who are Godly examples to our students. A biblical worldview (Integration), God’s plan and purpose, is woven throughout the curriculum.

The Kindergarten day will consist of phonics, sight words, reading, writing, handwriting, math, science, and Bible integrated approach to the curriculum. The monthly biblical character trait will be reinforced in the classroom. The day will include lunch, recess, Spanish, and learning centers either in the morning or afternoon depending on scheduling. Recess, Music, PE, and Bible are each thirty-minute time blocks weaved into the school day. We use a systematic approach to reading which is heavy in phonics with added 100 sight words to be memorized. Our teaching strategies include hands-on, visual, auditory, written, and kinesthetic to reach all students.

Using the integrated approach to learning, first grade through sixth grade focus on Bible, reading, phonics, grammar, writing, handwriting (cursive starting in second grade), spelling, math, science, and history. Math is taught with hands-on manipulatives and critical thinking for real life application along with building strong math fact minds. All classes study biblical character traits along with their classroom management system. Students attend chapel once a week with time to worship our Lord and focus on biblical traits. First grade through sixth grade meet weekly for age-appropriate chapel time with worship followed by a character lesson. Students learn to apply godly character in their own life through relevant and exciting stories and activities. We also believe in celebrating our students and their accomplishments. In a Student Spotlight Assembly, teachers recommend students for recognition based on achievement in a variety of categories. Student birthdays are celebrated and friendly competitions are held, making for a fun break from the rigorous academic day. Kindergarten meets daily in their class for Bible. First grade through sixth grade meet once a week for chapel and then have a Bible lesson the other two days in their classroom.

In order to prepare our students for the secondary years, they will have the opportunity to rotate between the two grade level classes. One teacher teaches the language arts and history block while the other teacher teaches the math and science block. Math is taught with critical thinking for real life application along with building strong math fact minds. Science is taught with hands-on lessons and a biblical worldview. The English and history programs at LCA place a heavy emphasis on reading and writing in order to develop and refine student skills in both oral and written communication, and to promote an understanding of, and appreciation for, fine literature. Instruction will also be given in handwriting, spelling, and grammar (depending on the grade level). As the students progress, they will begin to evaluate the world’s great literature against the standard of scriptural truth and wisdom.  All classes use the Biblical Character Traits along with their classroom management system. Students attend Chapel once a week with time to worship our Lord and focus on Biblical Character Traits.
