Purpose Statement
The purpose of athletics at LCA is to develop a student's character, promote a healthy lifestyle and practice the traditional ideals of good sportsmanship. Our goal is to develop Kingdom principles throughout our program and change the culture of sports in our community.
Character
It’s been said that “character is nobler than intellect.” Who we are is more important than what we can do intellectually or athletically. Our athletics programs exist as a platform to produce life-long virtues in student/athletes that they might become men and women of exemplary character. Consistent character is lived out at home and at school, on the court or field, at private or school-sponsored social events at all times. Virtues we especially emphasize are: humility, discipline, self-control, courage, boldness and honor.
Healthy Lifestyle
Our intention is to help athletes to understand athletics as the beginning of a life-long process of healthy living. This includes eating well, getting the right amounts of sleep, enjoying regular exercise, understanding injuries and physical neglect, and developing our God-given athletic talents and skills. It involves being good stewards of our bodies and making the right choices that will promote health and well-being into our adult years.
Sportsmanship
In each of our sports, six-man football, girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball and coed track and field, we celebrate the virtues of good sportsmanship—honesty, loyalty, humility, fair play, integrity, respect and honor—in order to develop not merely winners but champions and difference-makers capable of changing their world.
